Robert Bateman has been called the most famous living artist. Robert Bateman’s appreciation and understanding of nature are apparent in his paintings. He is able to paint flora and fauna the way your eye would perceive it in real life. It is important that the animal takes full attention. The background becomes muted, and therefore it doesn’t take too much focus away from the subject. His paintings seem effortless and masterful all at once.

Bateman’s eye for composition is unparalleled. Each painting is a composed like a symphony, leading the eye to wander.
“Both wolves and beavers are charismatic mammals representing Canadian wilderness. Beavers are seldom seen but their dams, ponds and lodges indicate their presence. Wolves are even more rare and their presence is often indicated by a chorus of howling. Sometimes when people howl for wolves they get a response from the wolves themselves.

This scene is of a beaver lodge in an old beaver meadow. These meadows are formed as plants move into the shallow pond and eventually create a wet meadow. This particular example is a meadow about a fifteen minute hike from our cottage in Haliburton County, Ontario. I of course did not see wolves there but they could have been there, sniffing the tantalizing aroma of potential prey that was safe inside its frozen but cozy home.”

Carl Brenders Biography

As a student of the Fine Arts Academy of Antwerp, Brenders honed his skills of high-realism. His career began while illustrating animals for publications such as Nature’s Hidden World. This book teaches with stunning detail the habits and habitats of the creatures of the European countryside. Therefore it was perfect for an artist to truly understand his subject. It was only natural to progress into the fine art world. Indeed he became one of the finest painters of the natural world.

Carl Brenders’ paintings receive awards in numerous art shows and can be found in many prestigious collections. He is collected by The Ford Collection, The National Museum of Wildlife Art and the Woodson Art Museum. His accolades include the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, SC. The National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY and Bennington Center for the Arts, VT.

Brotherly Love - Wolf Pups by Carl Brenders

(10″ x14″ – Canvas 180 sn – Call for price)

“A scene like this will remind every dog lover of their much loved puppies at home. When a dog has a litter of puppies it is always a time for celebration; at least it is for mother wolf. A litter of wolf pups is hope for the future. How many will survive, which one will become alpha wolf? Before growing up, they are cute little creatures, just like house dogs. Wolves that grow up in captivity have offspring they easily accept that you play with their pups, because they will see you as a member of the pack. Can one imagine better field work for a wildlife artist?
Then immediately I see the painting in my head. Sketches are made and many photographs of all the details, close ups of the nose, eye, ears, fur etc. are done. Wild animals won’t sit still and pose for you for weeks, so one way to freeze them is with the camera and take them home. Sketches are useful to study the character of the animal one wants to paint.
Little by little the painting then grows for you (and myself) to enjoy.”

Carl Brenders
