Otter Study – 14 1/4″ x 19″ – 950 Edition Signed and Numbered Paper Prints

“The otter is a favorite animal wherever it is found. It lives in beautiful country, usually along lakes and rivers and even seacoasts. Otters are gregarious, often traveling in family groups and enjoying a strong sense of fun. The otter is perfectly designed for its way of life which is mostly aquatic. The body is long, cylindrical and muscular with a long, strong tail slightly flattened from side to side to use as a rudder and also a propeller. the legs are very short, but the feet are big with webs between the toes. I particularly enjoy their alert expression which seems to suit their lively and active behavior.” – Robert Bateman

Nature as a subject is becoming more and more popular as our environment is in peril. What better subject is there than the beautiful creatures we share this world with? Robert Bateman’s appreciation and understanding of nature are apparent in his paintings. He is able to paint flora and fauna the way your eye would perceive it in real life. It is important that the animal takes full attention. The background becomes muted, and therefore it doesn’t take too much focus away from the subject. His paintings seem effortless and masterful all at once.
